# Sidekick > Sidekick is a Mac app that keeps your Google Tasks floating over whatever you're working on. Tick tasks off, drag them into order and add new ones without opening a browser tab, and every change syncs with Google Tasks on your phone. Sidekick is an independent Mac app by Mandeep Singh (NeuroGen), made for the Mac App Store, where it is coming soon. It is not made by or affiliated with Google. It needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later and a Google account with Google Tasks, including Google Workspace accounts where the administrator allows it. Key facts: - Shows Google Tasks in a floating list that stays above other apps, on any screen. - Two-way sync with Google Tasks: changes on the Mac go to Google straight away; changes from other devices arrive within a few minutes. - Works offline: the list stays on screen, and changes made without a connection are kept on the Mac (even through a quit or restart) and sent to Google in order when it's back online. - Keyboard shortcuts from any app: ⌃⌥N (add a task from any app); ⌃⌥T (fold every list down to its header, or open them again); ⌃⌥H (hide or show Sidekick). - Pricing: Free; Premium $0.99 a month or $8.99 a year (a subscription in the Mac App Store or on the web, covering the Mac app and Sidekick for AI); the Founder Edition, Premium for life for one payment of $24.99. - Sidekick for AI: your Google Tasks in Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps, through an MCP server. No Mac needed. Free to use; Premium and the Founder Edition remove the free plan's limits. Sidekick for Mac and Sidekick for AI are coming soon, together. - Privacy: tasks travel only between the Mac and Google. Sidekick for Mac has no servers for tasks, and no analytics or tracking. - Google doesn't make a desktop app for Google Tasks on Mac, Windows or Linux; the guides below cover every way to use it on a computer. ## Pages - [Home](https://heysidekick.app/): what Sidekick for Mac does, with a demo of a day on a Mac - [Sidekick for AI](https://heysidekick.app/ai/): the MCP server for Google Tasks, for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI apps (coming soon) - [Pricing](https://heysidekick.app/pricing/): plans, what each includes, pricing questions - [Docs](https://heysidekick.app/docs/): setting up and using Sidekick for AI and Sidekick for Mac - [Support](https://heysidekick.app/support/): setup, shortcuts, common questions - [Privacy policy](https://heysidekick.app/privacy/): what the app accesses and stores - [Terms of use](https://heysidekick.app/terms/) ## Guides - [Is there a Google Tasks desktop app?](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-desktop-app/): No. Google makes Google Tasks apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, but not for Mac, Windows or Linux. On a computer you use it on the web at tasks.google.com, in the side panel of Gmail and Google Calendar, as a web app installed from your browser, or through a desktop app that syncs with it. - [How to use Google Tasks on a Mac](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-on-mac/): Google doesn't make a Mac app for Google Tasks. On a Mac you can use it in four ways: on the web at tasks.google.com, in the side panel of Gmail and Google Calendar, as a web app installed from Chrome or Safari, or through a Mac app that syncs with it. - [How to get a Google Tasks widget on your Mac](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-widget-mac/): Google doesn't make a Google Tasks widget for the Mac. If you have an iPhone with the Google Tasks app, macOS can show its widget on your Mac's desktop: turn on Use iPhone widgets in System Settings › Desktop & Dock, then add the Tasks widget from Edit Widgets. - [Can Google Tasks sync with Apple Reminders?](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-apple-reminders/): No. Apple's Reminders app can't sync with Google Tasks. Your Google account brings mail, contacts, calendars and notes to Apple devices, but Google doesn't share tasks in the format Reminders reads. To use both, you need a third-party sync app, or you pick one of the two and use it everywhere. - [How to use Google Tasks on Windows](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-for-windows/): Google doesn't make a Google Tasks app for Windows. On a Windows 11 or 10 PC you can use it on the web at tasks.google.com, in the side panel of Gmail and Google Calendar, or install tasks.google.com as an app from Microsoft Edge or Chrome so it gets its own window and taskbar icon. - [Is there a Google Tasks widget for Windows 11?](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-widget-windows/): No. Google doesn't make a Google Tasks widget for the Windows 11 widget board or desktop. To keep Google Tasks visible on Windows, install tasks.google.com as an app from Edge or Chrome, pin it to the taskbar, and use Microsoft's PowerToys to keep its window on top. - [How to use Google Tasks on Linux](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-for-linux/): Google doesn't make a Google Tasks app for Linux. On Ubuntu, Linux Mint or any other desktop you can use it on the web at tasks.google.com, in the side panel of Gmail and Google Calendar, or install tasks.google.com as an app from Chrome, Chromium or Microsoft Edge so it opens in its own window. - [Google Tasks MCP: connect Google Tasks to Claude](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-mcp/): To use Google Tasks from Claude, connect an MCP server for Google Tasks. Google doesn't offer one for Tasks, so you either run an open-source server yourself or add a hosted one, such as Sidekick for AI (coming soon), as a custom connector in Claude's settings. - [How to use Google Tasks with ChatGPT](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-chatgpt/): ChatGPT's built-in Google connectors cover apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive, but not Google Tasks. To use Google Tasks in ChatGPT, add an MCP server for Google Tasks as a custom connector, on a ChatGPT plan that allows custom connectors. - [Clean up duplicate Google Tasks](https://heysidekick.app/guides/clean-up-duplicate-google-tasks/): Google Tasks doesn't find duplicates for you. You can go through each list and delete copies by hand, or ask an AI assistant connected through an MCP server to find likely duplicates, show what it would delete, and delete them once you approve. - [Google Tasks keyboard shortcuts](https://heysidekick.app/guides/google-tasks-keyboard-shortcuts/): In Google Tasks on the web, press Enter to add a task, Space to mark it complete, and ⌘] or Ctrl+] to indent it as a subtask (⌘[ or Ctrl+[ to undo the indent). Move a task with ⌘ or Ctrl and the up or down arrow, and press ⌘/ or Ctrl+/ to see the full list. In Gmail, with keyboard shortcuts on, g then k opens Tasks and Shift+T adds the open email as a task. - [Does Google Tasks work offline?](https://heysidekick.app/guides/does-google-tasks-work-offline/): Not on the web. Google Calendar's offline mode can't show tasks, and Gmail's offline mode covers mail only, so tasks.google.com and the Tasks side panel need a connection. Google doesn't document how its Android and iPhone apps behave offline, so if you rely on it, test it on your phone before a flight or a trip. - [Review overdue Google Tasks with an AI assistant](https://heysidekick.app/guides/review-overdue-google-tasks/): Google Tasks marks overdue dates in red in each list. To review everything at once, ask an AI assistant connected to Google Tasks through an MCP server what's overdue, due soon, undated or untouched, and let it move dates or tick things off when you agree. ## Docs ### Sidekick for AI - [Sidekick for AI](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/): Sidekick for AI is an MCP server for Google Tasks. Connect it to an AI app such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, sign in with Google, and the app can read and change your Google Tasks when you ask it to. - [Quickstart](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/quickstart/): Add Sidekick for AI to your AI app as a custom connector, sign in with your Google account when the app asks, then ask it something about your tasks. - [Connect to Claude](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/connect/claude/): In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste the Sidekick for AI address. Claude then asks you to sign in with Google. - [Connect to ChatGPT](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/connect/chatgpt/): ChatGPT connects to MCP servers such as Sidekick for AI as custom connectors, on the ChatGPT plans that allow them. Add the connector with the Sidekick for AI address, then sign in with Google. - [Connect to Cursor](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/connect/cursor/): In Cursor, add Sidekick for AI as an MCP server with its address in your MCP configuration. Cursor opens a Google sign-in the first time it uses it. - [Other AI apps](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/connect/other/): Any app that connects to a remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP, with OAuth sign-in, can use Sidekick for AI. Add the server by its address and sign in with Google when asked. - [Tools](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/tools/): Sidekick for AI gives your AI app tools to read, search and review your Google Tasks, find duplicates, add, edit, complete and move tasks, and delete them after a preview you approve. - [Review what's pending](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/examples/review-pending-tasks/): Ask your AI app something like "What's overdue, and what can wait?" It reads your open tasks through Sidekick for AI, groups them into overdue, due today, due in the next 7 days, due later, no date and untouched for a while, and helps you decide what to do. - [Remove duplicate tasks](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/examples/remove-duplicate-tasks/): Ask your AI app to find duplicate tasks. Sidekick for AI groups likely copies, picks the one to keep in each group, and shows exactly what would be deleted. Nothing is deleted until you approve that preview. - [Plans and limits](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/limits/): Sidekick for AI is free to use: reading, adding, editing, completing and moving tasks have no daily count. The free plan limits deleting (10 single deletes and 1 bulk delete of up to 50 tasks a day), lists (2) and accounts (1). Premium and the Founder Edition lift them: no daily delete counts, every list and up to 3 Google accounts. - [Privacy and security](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/security/): Sidekick for AI asks Google only for your Google Tasks and your email address. It stores your Google sign-in encrypted, keeps your tasks only for a few minutes while you work (a change Google can't take yet is kept until it goes through, for up to 7 days), never logs task text or uses it to train AI, and deletes your data when you ask. - [Questions](https://heysidekick.app/docs/ai/faq/): The most common questions about Sidekick for AI, the MCP server for Google Tasks. ### Sidekick for Mac - [Getting started](https://heysidekick.app/docs/mac/getting-started/): Install Sidekick from the Mac App Store, choose Connect Google Tasks… from its menu bar icon, allow access to Google Tasks, and your tasks appear on your desktop in a few seconds. - [Keyboard shortcuts](https://heysidekick.app/docs/mac/keyboard-shortcuts/): Three shortcuts work from any app: ⌃⌥N adds a task, ⌃⌥T folds every stack or opens them again, and ⌃⌥H hides or shows Sidekick. - [Accounts and lists](https://heysidekick.app/docs/mac/accounts-and-lists/): Sidekick shows one mixed stack across your Google accounts, each told apart by its checkbox colour and shape. You choose which Google Tasks lists show, and you can drag tasks out into stacks of their own on any screen. - [Working offline](https://heysidekick.app/docs/mac/offline/): Your tasks stay on screen without internet, and you can tick off, add and edit tasks as usual. Sidekick keeps every change on your Mac, even if you quit or restart, and sends them to Google Tasks in order when you're back online. - [Premium](https://heysidekick.app/docs/mac/premium/): Premium adds every Google account you use, as many stacks as you like on every screen, hiding during calls and screen sharing, steps as their own cards, and your own colours and checkbox shapes. It's $0.99 a month or $8.99 a year, and once your Mac is linked to your Sidekick account it covers Sidekick for AI too. ## Comparisons - [Google Keep vs Google Tasks](https://heysidekick.app/compare/google-keep-vs-google-tasks/): Use Google Keep for notes and things you want to remember, and Google Tasks for things you have to get done by a date. Keep holds notes, checklists, images and drawings, sorted with labels and colours, and you can share a note to edit it together. Tasks holds to-dos with due dates, times, deadlines, repeats and subtasks, and it sits beside Gmail, Calendar and Docs. Since October 2025, reminders you set in Keep are saved as tasks in Google Tasks. - [Google Tasks vs Microsoft To Do](https://heysidekick.app/compare/google-tasks-vs-microsoft-to-do/): Pick Google Tasks if your day runs on Gmail and Google Calendar, and Microsoft To Do if it runs on Outlook and Windows. Both are free. To Do has its own apps for Windows and Mac, a My Day planner, shared lists and Outlook's flagged emails as tasks. Google Tasks is simpler and lives inside Gmail, Calendar and Docs, with apps for phones but none for computers. Todoist and TickTick do more than either, with paid plans. ## Machine-readable - [Pricing in Markdown](https://heysidekick.app/pricing.md) - [Sitemap](https://heysidekick.app/sitemap.xml) ## Questions - **Is Sidekick made by Google?** No. Sidekick is an independent Mac app made by one developer. It uses Google's official Tasks API, and you sign in on Google's own page, so Sidekick never sees your password. - **Does it work with a work account?** Yes, with any Google account that has Google Tasks, including Google Workspace accounts where your administrator allows apps to use it. - **Will it slow my Mac down?** No. Sidekick checks Google every few minutes, and less often when you're away from your Mac. It's a small native app, built for the Mac. - **Which Macs does it run on?** Any Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia or later. - **What does Premium cost?** $0.99 a month or $8.99 a year, in the Mac App Store or on the web, and you can cancel at any time. Premium covers every Premium feature in the Mac app and Sidekick for AI with no free-plan limits. The free plan stays free. - **Where do I get help?** Write to support@heysidekick.app. A person reads every message. ## Optional - **How do I connect my Google account?** Click Sidekick's icon in the menu bar and choose Connect Google Tasks… to open Google's sign-in in your browser. Once you allow access, your tasks appear in a few seconds. - **Can I use more than one Google account?** Yes, with Premium: open Settings, choose Google Accounts, then Add Google Account… to connect another. Each account gets its own colour and checkbox shape, and all your tasks share one list. - **Why did Sidekick disappear?** With Premium, Sidekick steps out of sight while a meeting app is using your microphone, so it's hidden if you share your screen during the call. It comes back when the call ends. You can turn this off with Hide During Calls in Settings, under Meetings & Privacy, or hide Sidekick yourself at any time with ⌃⌥H. - **A change I made isn't on my phone yet.** Sidekick sends each change to Google straight away and checks for changes from your other devices every few minutes. If your Mac was offline, the change waits on your Mac, the list's header shows how many are waiting, and they go as soon as you're back online. To check right now, choose Refresh Now from the menu bar menu. - **How do I restore a purchase on a new Mac?** Open Settings, choose Plan, then Restore Purchases, signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you bought it with. Family Sharing works too. If you bought Premium on the web, link the Mac instead: open Settings, choose Sidekick Account, then Link This Mac. - **How do I remove my data?** In Settings, choose Google Accounts, then the account, then Sign Out… to delete its tasks and sign-in from your Mac. To remove everything, sign out of each account, unlink the Mac if you linked it, then delete Sidekick. You can also revoke access from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. - **Does Sidekick work with a Google Workspace account?** Yes, if your administrator allows third-party apps to use Google Tasks. If sign-in is blocked, ask them to allow Sidekick in the Google Admin console. Contact: support@heysidekick.app
