Get started in four steps

  1. Install Sidekick

Get Sidekick from the Mac App Store once it's out, and open it. It's coming soon. Its icon appears in the menu bar at the top of your screen.

  2. Connect your Google account

Click the menu bar icon and choose Connect Google Tasks…, and your browser opens Google's own sign-in page.

  3. Allow access to Google Tasks

Google asks whether Sidekick may see and edit your tasks. Once you allow it, your lists appear on your desktop within a few seconds.

  4. Put the list where you want it

Drag the list by its header to wherever you want it, on any screen. It stays above your other windows until you hide it with ⌃⌥H.

Sidekick needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later and a Google account with Google Tasks. Google Workspace accounts work where the administrator allows third-party apps.

These work from any app, without switching to Sidekick first.

⌃⌥N

Common questions

How do I connect my Google account?

Click Sidekick's icon in the menu bar and choose Connect Google Tasks… to open Google's sign-in in your browser. Once you allow access, your tasks appear in a few seconds.

Can I use more than one Google account?

Yes, with Premium: open Settings, choose Google Accounts, then Add Google Account… to connect another. Each account gets its own colour and checkbox shape, and all your tasks share one list.

Why did Sidekick disappear?

With Premium, Sidekick steps out of sight while a meeting app is using your microphone, so it's hidden if you share your screen during the call. It comes back when the call ends. You can turn this off with Hide During Calls in Settings, under Meetings & Privacy, or hide Sidekick yourself at any time with ⌃⌥H.

A change I made isn't on my phone yet.

Sidekick sends each change to Google straight away and checks for changes from your other devices every few minutes. If your Mac was offline, the change waits on your Mac, the list's header shows how many are waiting, and they go as soon as you're back online. To check right now, choose Refresh Now from the menu bar menu.

How do I restore a purchase on a new Mac?

Open Settings, choose Plan, then Restore Purchases, signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you bought it with. Family Sharing works too. If you bought Premium on the web, link the Mac instead: open Settings, choose Sidekick Account, then Link This Mac.

How do I remove my data?

In Settings, choose Google Accounts, then the account, then Sign Out… to delete its tasks and sign-in from your Mac. To remove everything, sign out of each account, unlink the Mac if you linked it, then delete Sidekick. You can also revoke access from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Does Sidekick work with a Google Workspace account?

Yes, if your administrator allows third-party apps to use Google Tasks. If sign-in is blocked, ask them to allow Sidekick in the Google Admin console.

Your data

Your tasks travel only between your Mac and Google. Sidekick for Mac has no servers for your tasks and keeps no copy of them anywhere else. The privacy policy lists exactly what it accesses and stores, and the terms of use cover purchases and refunds.
