Tools
Sidekick for AI gives your AI app tools to read, search and review your Google Tasks, find duplicates, add, edit, complete and move tasks, and delete them after a preview you approve.
Sidekick for AI is coming soon, with Sidekick for Mac. These pages describe how it works at launch.
Your AI app picks the tools for you; you only ask in plain words. Each tool tells the app whether it only reads or changes something, and whether a change can overwrite or delete what’s there, so apps such as Claude can ask your permission at the right moments. Every tool works only inside your own Google Tasks.
Reading

Changing
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
add_task |
Adds a task, with its list, due date, notes, or as a step of another task |
create_task_list |
Adds a list |
update_task |
Changes a task’s title, notes or due date |
complete_task, reopen_task |
Ticks a task off, or brings it back |
move_task |
Reorders a task, makes it a step, or moves it to another list |
Deleting
Deleting always takes two tools, so nothing is deleted without a preview you’ve seen:
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
preview_delete |
Shows exactly which tasks would be deleted, with their lists, dates and steps, and for duplicates which copy is kept. Changes nothing |
delete_tasks |
Deletes exactly the tasks in a preview, after you’ve approved it. It stops and asks for a new preview if any of them changed since |
A delete can include up to 200 tasks, or up to 50 on the free plan. Google Tasks has no bin, so deleted tasks can’t be recovered. On the free plan, see the daily limits.
