Google Tasks MCP: connect Google Tasks to Claude

To use Google Tasks from Claude, connect an MCP server for Google Tasks. Google doesn't offer one for Tasks, so you either run an open-source server yourself or add a hosted one, such as Sidekick for AI (coming soon), as a custom connector in Claude's settings.

What MCP is

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI apps use outside tools. An MCP server for Google Tasks gives Claude tools such as “list my tasks” or “add a task”, which it uses when you ask about your tasks. In Claude, MCP servers are called connectors.

1. Run an open-source Google Tasks MCP server

Several open-source projects wrap the Google Tasks API as an MCP server.

Good for: developers who want full control and don’t mind setup. The catch: you create your own Google Cloud project and OAuth client. While the client is unverified, Google shows a warning at sign-in, and in its testing mode sign-ins expire after seven days. A server running on your computer only works in Claude Desktop or Claude Code on that computer.

2. Add a hosted Google Tasks MCP server

A hosted server is added as a custom connector: in Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste its address. Claude asks you to sign in with Google, and the connector works in Claude on the web, on the desktop and on your phone.

Sidekick for AI, from the makers of Sidekick for Mac, is a hosted MCP server for Google Tasks, coming soon. It asks Google only for your tasks and email address, works with personal and Workspace accounts (where an organisation only allows apps its admin has approved, the admin allows it first), and never deletes anything without showing you a preview first. See how to connect it to Claude.

Good for: anyone who wants it to work in a couple of minutes, everywhere they use Claude. The catch: a service holds your Google sign-in, so check what it stores and how. Claude’s plans also decide how many custom connectors you can add.

Questions

Does Google make an MCP server for Google Tasks?

No. Google offers official MCP servers for some of its services, but none for Google Tasks, so the options are an open-source server you run yourself or a hosted one.

Can Claude use Google Tasks without MCP?

Not directly. Claude reaches outside apps through connectors, which are MCP servers, so Google Tasks needs one.

Is it safe to let an AI change my tasks?

It depends on the server. Look for one that asks Google only for your tasks and email address, and that previews deletes and asks before removing anything, since Google Tasks has no bin.
