Review overdue Google Tasks with an AI assistant

Google Tasks marks overdue dates in red in each list. To review everything at once, ask an AI assistant connected to Google Tasks through an MCP server what's overdue, due soon, undated or untouched, and let it move dates or tick things off when you agree.

In Google Tasks itself

Open each list and look for the dates shown in red.

Good for: a quick look at one or two lists. The catch: with several lists it’s slow, and nothing shows tasks that have sat untouched for weeks.

With an AI assistant

Connect Google Tasks to Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app through an MCP server, then ask:

The assistant reads every list, groups your open tasks and suggests what to do. When you agree, it moves dates, ticks off what’s done or moves tasks between lists, and the changes show in Google Tasks on your phone and in Gmail.

Sidekick for AI (coming soon) has a tool built for this: it groups open tasks into overdue, due today, due in the next 7 days, due later, no date and untouched for a while. Reading has no daily count on any plan, within fair use. See reviewing what’s pending.

Make it weekly

Pick a time, such as Monday morning, and ask for the same review each week. It takes a few minutes and keeps your lists honest.

Questions

Where do I see overdue tasks in Google Tasks?

In each list, overdue dates show in red. Sorting a list by date puts them first.

What should a weekly review cover?

What's overdue, what's due this week, what has no date, and what you haven't touched in a while. Then decide for each: do it, give it a date, or drop it.
